Marijuana and Driving
Let’s just say that if someone is high they are probably more likely to have an accident. I don’t think anyone would seriously argue that driving around HIGH makes you a safer driver. That being said, this study is rather ludicrous overall for the results it states.
It’s obvious that being impaired impacts driving. The study, however is one of those that looks more like propaganda than it does a scientific study.
One of the observations in the study says that: ” Previous results have also found that there is also a substantially higher chance of collision if the driver is aged 35 or younger.”
Well…no kidding. Less experienced drivers are more likely to get into accidents? Astounding! Maybe people under 35 are more likl.ey to have smoked marijuana in the last 12 hours too.
I’m not against studying effects of impairment on driving, but I find studies like this to be immensely unprofessional, and frankly political BS rather than actual science. There is absolutely no control in this study. Plus they have a large time window that assumes most of these people are still impacted by the drug up to 12 hours later enough that they will get into an accident. 50% more likely even.
Honestly, I don’t care if studies are done that show these results if they are good studies. Studies like this should be scorned and those doing them should have their funding revoked. Do a real scientific study and not political ones with zero scientific results. These guys sound more qualified to be carpet cleaners holly springs nc than researchers.
