Google Hot Trends
Just browsing through the RSS Feeds in my reader and happened to see Google Hot Trends show up in several places today. So what’s all the hype about?
Well Google Hot Trends is a list of the Top 100 real time search results for the day. These are the keywords that people are using the most frequently for this specific day. This is very helpful in finding thing to write about that are popular, as well as see a bit of a trend with what the most popular keyword searches are.
How does Hot Trends work?
Straight from Google:
Hot Trends are a reflection of what people are searching for on Google today. Rather than showing the most popular searches overall, which would always be generic terms like “weather”, Hot Trends highlights searches that have suddenly gained popularity. Our algorithm analyzes millions of web searches that have been performed on Google and displays those searches that are deviating the most from their historic traffic pattern. The algorithm also filters out spam and removes inappropriate material.
Goodie…the word algorithm. Such a Google favorite.
You are also able to compare up to 5 search terms at a time to see how often they have been searched and how they rank. Another great tool for webmasters. Considering Lycos has had their Top 50 and 100 for years, it makes you wonder why it took Google so long to add this feature.
