A Look at Microsoft Office Alternatives

I ran accrossed a pretty nice article on switching away from Microsoft Office in business at Network Computing. It discusses some of the free options that I recommended before from Open Office . The discussion is an interesting look into the problems with switching over, but really gives you a great breakdown of the importance to a business as to why it should be considered. A couple hundred dollars for a Microsoft License? Your business needs 10, 100, 1000 of them? Imagine the savings.

Open Source and online apps will eventually displace things that we are used to purchasing..

I read somewhere that MicroSoft only cares about 500 customers, and that would be the Fortune 500. This certainly will take decades, but it will happen.

Anything digital will become very cheap , or free. Look at what happened to Kodak. I have not bought a roll of film for many years. The same thing is happening with telecommunications and long distance service fees. Buggy Whips!
